Meet the 2019 IDEA-X Judges
Outdoor Learning and Sustainability Program Specialist, Science World, BC
Alex was brought up by the rolling canola fields and quartzite mountains of Alberta, Canada in Tsuu T'ina/Métis/Plains Cree (Treaty 6) ancestral territory. She recently finished her M.Ed. in Urban Environmental Education where she looked at the interface between social justice and the urban environment. She uses these topics as a lens when designing programs and evaluating galleries as the curator of the Ken Spencer Science Park and Our World galleries at Science World. With a background as a marine educator with the Vancouver Aquarium and Parks Canada, she has seen the effects of plastics from gutter to coastline and is excited to see the future of solutions coming out of Idea X 2019.
Adrian Midwood Executive Director of Plastic Ocean
We aim to educate Canadians to become plastic literate, so they can make informed decisions about how and when they accept plastic and challenge society’s perception that this indestructible substance can be treated as ‘disposable’.
Adrian is originally from Maple Ridge BC. After finishing school, he traveled the world working as a commercial Captain. For the past 7 years, Adrian has worked directly on waste plastic remediation programs such as developing government programs for Fiji and Tonga on education and waste collection, building infrastructure and job creation for local rural communities centered around valuing plastics and collaborating with most major international NGO’s and foreign embassies based in the South Pacific on frameworks for waste plastic remediation. He has just finished an extensive school tour across B.C. creating engagement and momentum for action.
